  • Mikkeller Spontanwild-strawberry

    Updated: 2012-11-29 11:53:45
Earlier this week, I posted a review of Mikkeller’s Spontankriek with the complaint of an off-putting medicinal character that was a bit too prevalent to fully ignore. Well, we’re back with another in the brewery’s “Spontan-” series with this bottle of Spontanwildstrawberry. Perhaps my palate was off the day I tried these two beers, but [...]

  • Mikkeller Spontankriek

    Updated: 2012-11-27 14:33:50
Last week, in a review published for Mikkeller’s Black Hole, I mentioned that my relationship with the brewery has been rocky at times. I loved Black Hole, but this particular, wild-fermentation brew would be a valley in that rocky history. Spontankriek is a spontaneously fermented lambic that’s been aged in oak barrels. So far, so [...]

Addition of honey throughout boil dampens bitterness slightly and adds subtle sweet notes. Strong malty flavors and aggresive mouth feel make this a great sipping beer, or compliment a variety of meals. My favorite is a nice sirloin with broccoli and a twice-baked potato.
